Battersea Jazz Festival Feat Social London Orchestra

Sun 6 Aug • 2:45PM
Social London Orchestra will be bringing a UK first to the Clapham Grand on Sunday 6th August, in the first recorded performance of Skip Martin’s “Scheherajazz” on British soil... AND IT'S FREE! Skip Martin was a big band arranger in the golden years of Hollywood, and his arrangement brings the classic Hollywood sound to the magical ballet music of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade”. The ballet is famous for its warm melodies and exciting dances, and the original music is combined with swinging big band interludes with a variety of flavours to delight all comers. Social London Orchestra is a new amateur orchestra which aims to democratise classical music and create exciting and interactive concerts which make great music accessible to all audiences. They will be joined by a band of some of London’s most established professional jazz musicians. The first half of the concert will also feature brand new arrangements of jazz songs written for orchestra and big band. This is a free concert and also the final event of the Battersea Jazz Festival, which celebrates both the world-class jazz scene of London and the incredible venues and community that Battersea has to offer.
